The Basics — Room Size vs HP
Capacity is measured in horsepower (HP), and matching it to the room matters more than any other spec. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite cools; an oversized one cools too fast, short-cycles, and leaves the air clammy. Use this as your starting point:
- 1.0HP — Small rooms, 100-150 sqft (a standard bedroom)
- 1.5HP — Medium rooms, 150-250 sqft (a master bedroom)
- 2.0HP — Small living rooms, 250-350 sqft
- 2.5HP — Large living rooms, 350-450 sqft
- 3.0HP — Halls and offices, 450-550 sqft
